Wisdom of the Body

May 20, 2021

Listen to Deanna Ansara explain to Heather why our modern relationship with fashion must be disrupted. Deanna’s clothing brand Vincetta attempts to slow down the pace of consumption and production by encouraging people to feel accepted in their identity and bodies, striving for social change by challenging the “I’m not enough” narrative that drives a lot of consumption and mental health issues. Express yourself authentically, and nurture a harmonious relationship with the planet and the clothing you wear.

In this episode, Heather and Deanna discuss:

  • Why the fashion industry norms are unsustainable
  • Body positivity, self-acceptance and self-exploration
  • Making clothes for different body types
  • How Deanna got into fashion
  • Representing gender fluidity in fashion
  • Agency and creativity
  • Being an inclusive brand
  • Minimalism
  • Consumer behaviors
  • Creating a community and conversation about social change in the fashion industry

Deanna Ansara is a sustainability focused entrepreneur and human-centered creator, working intentionally through a lens of mental health, social impact, and intersectionality. She is passionate about humanizing the production process and encouraging a collective slowing down in the way we produce and consume. Her brand focuses on community building and education through storytelling, engaging collective discussions, and generating thought provoking conversation and questions. Prior to her clothing brand Vincetta, she worked as a designer at brands like J. Crew and Ralph Lauren. She spent 3 years as a Venture Fellow at a Sustainability Incubator in Brooklyn, NY. Outside of sustainability and fashion, Deanna has spent 8 years independently studying consumer behavior through a mental health focus, which is something that she brings into her current practice. The next chapter of Deanna's life and brand will explore new avenues of education, online community events, and collaborations with the main themes centered around Self-Development, Accountability, and Empathy.
